The government has said it will combine the Waiariki Institute of Technology and the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic into a single institution as objections to the plan failed to dispute its economic benefits.
The government acknowledged 106 submissions to the public consultation on the proposed merger. “While there were a greater number of negative submissions, few made any specific comments in relation to the business case,” the government said in an announcement on 9 December.
“Submissions in support associated a range of benefits with the proposal including more effective educational delivery, less duplication, the provision of a region-wide approach to tertiary education, improved collaboration and engagement and the benefits of scale,” it said.
