Malaysia to accept NZ postgrad qualifications

Masters and doctoral degrees from New Zealand institutions are to be officially recognised in Malaysia, in a move welcomed by New Zealand universities.

In a statement, Universities New Zealand, the representative body for New Zealand’s universities, described the decision to extend the recognition of degree courses as “hugely important,” on the basis that it will increase the attraction of the nation’s institutions to Malaysian students.

The decision means that masters and doctoral degrees from New Zealand institutions will be recognised in Malaysia; previously this was only the case for undergraduate degrees. This will incentivise Malaysian students to take up further education in the country, because they know their qualification will be recognised by employers back home.
