NZ academics rewarded in New Year honours

Clinical geneticist Joanne Dixon and mathematician David Gauld are among the New Zealand scientists who were recognised in the Queen’s New Year honours.

Dixon, a former president of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia was appointed as an officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit. This was in recognition for her work with Genetic Health Service New Zealand, 

Gauld, head of the department of mathematics at the University of Auckland, received the same award. He was honoured for his contribution to research and education, including his work on setting up the New Zealand Mathematics Research Institute.
