Award shows Waikato winning war on waste

The University of Waikato in Hamilton has won a major global environment award for involving students in campus waste minimisation projects

These include workshops to repair and donate bicycle to refugees, a campus shop, or eco-emporium that recycles clothes and household items, and a programme that has donated 7 tonnes of secondhand furniture and equipment to charities.

Students also designed artwork for more than 80 indoor recycling stations at the university, and have achieved a 30 per cent increase in recycling rates across the campus.
