New Zealand’s research publishing efforts are not “well matched” to those areas that produce high quality science, according to a government performance review of science and innovation.
The report says that more than half of all NZ research papers are in five disciplines: medicine, agriculture and biological sciences, social sciences, biochemistry and engineering.
But it warns that “a large output by New Zealand” of medical research publications does not necessarily indicate an area of specialist research expertise or research impact.
