New Zealand universities will need to open more graduate schools to meet a rising demand for digital technology qualifications, according to a government report.

The survey of NZ domestic students also shows more women are studying civil engineering, and now account for 19 per cent of graduates in this field.

The report says the largest number of domestic graduates in 2015 were in social and cultural studies (38,500), management and commerce (32,400) and engineering and related technologies (19,400).
