Survey aims to build social networks for the elderly

The University of Auckland is conducting a national survey to find out why New Zealand has one of the world’s highest rates of social isolation and loneliness for older people.

A research team led by UA health sciences professor Merryn Gott will conduct a survey of people aged 65 years, or older, and will use the data to develop programmes for the government’s Ageing Well programme.

The study is seeking participants from across NZ, who will be asked to complete two questionnaires over a six-month period.
