English favoured to win NZ leadership ballot

Three politicians have declared they will run as candidates to replace John Key following the New Zealand prime minister’s shock resignation on 5 December.

Deputy prime minister and finance minister Bill English has confirmed he will be a contender, along with police minister Judith Collins and health minister Jonathan Coleman.

In his resignation speech, Key said that he would support English if his deputy decided to contest the National Party leadership when the caucus meets on 12 December.
