Hipkins launches school technology drive

New Zealand school children will be taught how to use digital technologies to design computer programmes, mobile apps and video games following changes to the national curriculum.

Announcing details on 8 December, education minister Chris Hipkins said all NZ schools will be expected “to fully integrate the revised learning area into their curriculum by the start of the 2020 school year”.

He said the revised digital technologies curriculum content will be available to teachers from early 2018. It will be taught from the first year of primary school to year 10, with the option for students to specialise in digital technology subjects from years 11 to 13.
