Robot politician could help create better policy

The world’s first “virtual politician” has been developed by Victoria University of Wellington researchers working with NZ software company Touchtech and technology entrepreneur Nick Gerritsen.

The Semantic Analysis Machine (SAM) is a machine-learning system that uses social media to understand how policies could best reflect the views expressed by voters.

Announcing details of the project, Victoria University lead researcher Walter Langelaar said SAM was developed in response to “a lot of dissatisfaction around contemporary politics”.
