Joyce budget speech outlines NZ’s ‘hi-tech future’

New Zealand finance minister Steven Joyce has stressed the importance of science and innovation in his budget speech, saying they will shape the country’s future.

Delivering his first budget in Wellington on 25 May, Joyce said the Nationals government wanted NZ to become “an innovative outward-facing hi-tech country selling high value products and services to the world”.

“We’re growing an increasingly impressive tech sector, with hundreds and hundreds of competitive Kiwi companies selling their amazing technologies all over the globe. This is our future,” he told the NZ parliament.
