NZ wants faster cuts in climate change pollutants

New Zealand’s environment minister Nick Smith has called for public comment on a government climate change policy to reduce the use of hydrofluorocarbons in air-conditioning and refrigeration.

Announcing the plan on 15 May, Smith said it would aim to cut HFC consumption “by more than 80 per cent over the next 20 years”.

“New Zealand does not manufacture HFCs but we do import them,” Smith said.
