Large-scale farm crops linked to bee losses

Intensive crop farming in New Zealand is having a negative impact on native bees, according to researchers from the University of Auckland.

The study found that areas surrounded by high intensity agriculture, such as commercial sunflower crops, recorded a 90 per cent decline in some native bee species.

The findings are published in the August edition of Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences.
