The Asia New Zealand Foundation is setting up a media centre to help improve “the breadth and depth” of NZ news coverage of Asian politics, business and culture.
ANZF executive director Simon Draper outlined details of the initiative in an editorial published by Fairfax media on 11 September.
The move comes as the Australian Associated Press news service announced it will close its Jakarta bureau in Indonesia after 35 years. In a brief statement, editor-in-chief Tony Gillies said AAP will cover Asia from its Sydney newsroom, and “source leads from an alliance of Asian news organisations.”
