Waikato to investigate Muslim comment by senior lecturer

University of Waikato academic Raymond Richards has been urged to apologise for a social media post that suggested employers would not want to hire Muslims because they “stop work five times a day” to pray.

Richards, who teaches American history at Waikato, posted the remark on a publicly accessible Facebook page for New Zealand fuel distributor Z Energy.

He deleted it following an angry backlash sparked by NZ media coverage, but told Fairfax news website Stuff that “I stand by the comments and NZ is a free country”.
