Awards back Lincoln’s future Māori leaders

Lincoln University in Christchurch has announced new scholarships to help first-year Māori and Pacific Islands students meet the costs of on-campus residential accommodation.

The university will award one-year scholarships worth $5,000 to 20 students of Māori and Pacific Islands descent who have shown leadership potential in their communities.

Announcing details, Lincoln academic and director of Kaiarahi Māori (student support) Dione Payne said that living costs had been identified as “one of the barriers which may stop Māori and Pasifika embarking on tertiary study”.
