Eating anxieties affecting young NZ athletes

Many of New Zealand’s young professional rugby players have body image problems and are at risk of developing eating disorders, according to research by the University of Otago.

The study was conducted by scientists from Otago’s department of human nutrition. It involved 26 Super Rugby athletes who provided information about their eating habits, dietary choices and satisfaction with body image.

The results are published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.
