Anger over plans to cut public access to archive reading rooms

Decision was made without appropriate consultation with researchers, says historian

Proposed cuts to public reading room hours for Archives New Zealand offices in early 2020 will have a major impact on researchers and students, a leading history academic has said.

Anna Green, acting director of the Stout research centre for NZ studies at Victoria University of Wellington, says the move is “completely incongruous” with the government’s plans to increase public knowledge of the country’s history.
