AUT drug scientists win licence for medical cannabis research

Auckland partners aim to develop standards and establish best genetic strains for NZ growing conditions

New Zealand’s government has granted licences for medicinal cannabis R&D to Auckland University of Technology and local pharmaceutical company Zeacann.

Applications for research licences opened in May, with the Ministry of Health announcing strict conditions that included police checks, research site inspections, secure storage arrangements and verified sources for cannabis seeds.
