Massey index tracks trends in NZ ‘wellbeing pizza’ budget

An online economic index that measures how various income groups have benefited from New Zealand’s economy has been launched by Massey University researchers.

The Shared Prosperity Index measures the gaps between affluent and middle-class sections of NZ society compared to those on lower incomes and welfare support.

It uses eight dimensions in its calculations: income and wealth, employment, housing, health, socio-economic wellbeing, education, general equality and safety and security. An online dashboard tracks how NZ is performing across each of these.
