Languages at risk from displacement caused by climate crisis, says minister

New Zealand’s minister for Pacific peoples has warned that climate change will affect the future survival of Pacific languages, particularly among communities forced to relocate as sea levels rise.

Aupito William Sio said youth delegates at the recent Pacific Islands Forum in Tuvalu raised concerns about loss of cultural identity and potential impacts on mental health.
