Universities need policies to ‘value experience of mature staff’

Exchange of ideas between experienced academics and young future leaders is important, says business dean

Companies can lose corporate knowledge, experienced relationship managers and workplace diversity by “pushing out” older workers and replacing them with less experienced younger staff, a New Zealand business academic has said.

Kate Kearins, pro vice-chancellor and dean of the faculty of business, economics and law at Auckland University of Technology, says tertiary researchers and teachers are also becoming increasingly affected by this trend towards “juniorisation” of workplaces.
