Scientists ‘shaken’ by White Island charges

  

New Zealand Association of Scientists calls for debate around free flow of scientific information

Charges against a Crown Research Institute over the White Island volcanic eruption have “shaken” the New Zealand science community, the president of the New Zealand Association of Scientists has said.

GNS Science, which provides advice on volcanic activity, is one of 13 organisations and individuals facing charges from WorkSafe, the country’s primary workplace health and safety regulator, related to the eruption and 22 deaths in December 2019.
