More money spent on bids for government funds than can be awarded

New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment needs to make research funding easier to apply for, according to its own experts.

A new report by MBIE’s three science advisers, released on 5 August, reveals that the costs of applying for funding are so high that the money spent on applying for funding can outweigh the actual funds available for researchers.
