Report calls for big changes for Pacific equality

Future Pathways programme must offer Islander researchers better funding and integrate Pacific norms

A report commissioned from private sector consultants by the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has found that numerous “key shifts” are needed to improve the career prospects and opportunities of Pacific Islander researchers.

The report said research funding models need to be improved to make sure that researchers from Islander communities were given equal access. The report also proposed the creation of a process to “genuinely integrate Pacific methodologies, research practices and cultural protocols in the research, science and innovation system”.
