Fall in number of animals used for research in New Zealand

   

Report outlines drop in overall figures, but almost 150,000 killed without being used

The use of animals in New Zealand research declined between 2019 and 2020, according to a report from the Ministry for Primary Industries.

The figures, published on 27 May, show that 245,522 animals were used in research, down 70,052 from 2019.
