New Zealand university says it needs to save NZ$60 million a year urgently
A drop in enrolments is being blamed for deep staff and spending cuts expected at the University of Otago.
Acting vice-chancellor Helen Nicholson notified staff of the impending cuts on 20 April. She said the university needed to save around NZ$60 million a year and that “salary savings will need to be a significant component of this. It is likely that this will result in changes across the entire university.”
