In depth: New Zealand has a “a once-in-a-generation opportunity” to fix problems with its university system, according to Universities New Zealand chair Cheryl de la Rey. De la Rey, who is also vice-chancellor of the University of Canterbury, said in a 17 July statement that “structural issues” meant the sector needed “different funding settings and investment levels”.
