Collaboration on mouse gene functions launched

The Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust are making the UK’s contribution towards a major multinational project to create a complete database on gene function in a mammal. The International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium, launched on 29 September, will build a library of information describing the function of every gene in the mouse genome. The IMPC is a 10-year project by 15 research institutions and national funding agencies from six countries. It will involve groups of scientists from Australia, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK and the US.
