Home Office adviser defends department’s record

Bernard Silverman, chief scientific adviser to the Home Office, has said that he has an “immediate” and “personal” relationship with the secretary of state at his department.

Speaking at an evidence session for a House of Lords inquiry into chief scientific advisers on 25 October, Silverman said his relationship with Theresa May has been developed largely through weekly “roundtable meetings” but conceded that he has had fewer one-on-one discussions. He added that he meets “very often with ministers bilaterally”.
