Researcher wins EU funding for phone-hacking blocks

Jeremy O'Brien, a researcher at the University of Bristol, has won up to £130,000 from the European Research Council to commercialise his innovations in mobile-communications security.

The technology could be used to enable people to set the level of security they wish for each phone call. This would make it possible for private mobile-phone users to enjoy a level of security closer to that of government and big companies.
