Most final-year university students say the teaching they received at school was better than that at university, says a survey for the private-schools body, the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC).
A BBC report says half of those interviewed were from state schools and half were from independent schools. The study of 1,000 students suggests private-school pupils were particularly disappointed, with 61 per cent rating school teaching more highly. But most state-school students also rated school teaching more highly, by 42 per cent of state to 38 per cent in favour of the university experience.
