BMJ backs further investigations into MMR scandal

The British Medical Journal wants a further inquiry into the events that led to the publication of Andrew Wakefield’s discredited paper claiming a link between the MMR vaccine and autism.

Wakefield was struck off the medical register by the General Medical Council 18 months ago for dishonesty and serious professional misconduct. But the BMJ does not believe that all the guilty parties have been published for their role in a scandal which caused thousands of parents to refuse vaccine treatment for their children.
