John Womersley, the newly-appointed chief executive of the Science and Technology Facilities Council, is overseeing a revamp of its science advisory panels. Speaking at his first press briefing since becoming chief executive, he committed to fighting hard for a better deal for science. He said a flat budget was “not good for the UK and not good for maintaining the strengths of our universities”.
