Defra: coir in growing media – a sustainability assessment

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs invites applications for its coir in growing media: a sustainability assessment.

Research is required to assess the economic, social and environmental sustainability of coir used as an input material of growing media. This assessment should not focus on greenhouse gas emissions or the carbon footprint of the material, although the absence of this from the assessment will need to be acknowledged and the topic could be briefly discusses in the final report.
