Education reforms push England’s universities into open market

The UK government has revealed its plans to reform higher education in England in a White Paper published on 28 June.

The long overdue paper, Students at the Heart of the System, sets out measures aimed at introducing market values into the sector. This follows the decision earlier this year to increase annual tuition fees from around £3,000 (€3,300) to between £6,000 and £9,000. Most institutions have chosen fees at the top end of the scale.
