EPSRC outlines cuts based on ‘importance’

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council’s decision to fund research according to its “importance” as well as its excellence is not a new concept, chief executive David Delpy has said.

Speaking to Research Fortnight following the publication of the council’s research portfolio on 21 July, Delpy said that although the council has now explicitly stated importance as a criterion, it has always been a factor in the peer-review process.
