Learn to tweet, academics told

A twitter account for specific research projects is an “easy addition” to the Pathways to Impact statement that will accompany funding applications to the research councils, researchers under the Living With Environmental Change programme have said.

Mark Reed and Anna Evely, from the LWEC-accredited projects “Rural Economy” and “Land Use”, have produced a guide for academics on how to make the most of twitter.

Suggestions include actively promoting personal twitter streams; using twitter as part of a wider communications strategy; and linking tweets to recent developments in academia or news.

The £1 billion LWEC programme is one of a series of cross-council programmes that seek to address major issues facing society by developing a strong evidence base to support policymaking.
