MOD: force protection engineering

The Ministry of Defence has issued a call for tenders for military research on force protection engineering.

Expressions of interest are sought to address the following capability gaps: lightweight protection from direct and indirect fire (rockets, mortars and airburst) requiring less resources overall than current solutions; improved sangars and other modular structures with protection against small arms, and indirect fire and with the ability to be upgraded rapidly to resist rocket propelled grenades and more severe threats; protected field ammunition storage for tactical bases; a systems approach to protection for tactical base entrances against vehicle and person-borne improvised explosive devices; better protection for rotary aircraft from indirect fire, specifically overhead from fragments; improved perimeter security from better sensor fusion and more effective physical barriers; enhanced concepts for hardening and strengthening existing buildings; better physical barriers to protect ships alongside.
