British Academy condemns changes in visa rules

Government immigration policies suggest the UK is no longer “open for business”, claims the British Academy. Responding to the UK Border Agency’s Work and Settlement Consultation on 13 September, the academy fears the proposed controls will discourage top academics from doing research in the UK. Already, it says, difficulties in obtaining visas and restrictions on the period of time academic and professional migrants are allowed to remain are damaging UK higher education.
