Campaign group sounds alarm over ‘declining’ science budget

The UK government has broken its promises to protect the science budget, says the Campaign for Science and Engineering. Its latest study highlights what it calls an alarming decline in funding despite political pledges to defend such investment. It calculates that, by 2014-15, the research base will be £1.7 billion worse off as a result of decisions taken since last year’s spending review, and inflation will further cut into this shrinking budget.
