Defra: planning policy and biodiversity offsets phase III research – desk based study to apply a new biodiversity offsetting metric to an existing sample of historic real life planning cases

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs invites expressions of interest for its planning policy and biodiversity offsets phase III research – desk based study to apply a new biodiversity offsetting metric to an existing sample of historic real life planning cases.

The overall aim of this 4 month project is to test the biodiversity offsetting framework being piloted from April 2012-April 2014 on a limited selection of real planning cases to identify the likely scale of benefits for biodiversity and any significant additional costs to developers arising from the use of the biodiversity offsetting framework over and above those associated with the current approach to providing compensatory measures required by planning policy.
