Publication targets will hit female researchers

Proposed guidelines on research careers could unfairly penalise women who take time off to have children, says the University and College Union.

Draft proposals have been drawn up by the UK higher education funding bodies, as part of a six-year Research Excellence Framework exercise. They would require researchers taking maternity leave to produce the same number of high-quality research publications as their colleagues.
