The UK looks set to join the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research in Darmstadt, Germany, as an associate member, subject to government approval.
Janet Seed, the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s acting executive director of programmes, says she is reasonably confident the FAIR partnership will happen, but it will “take time” for the Foreign Office and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to give their approval. The deal has also been given the green light by FAIR’s management, according to chairman Boris Sharkov.
