The inaugural John Maddox Prize for Standing up for Science has been awarded to a researcher from King’s College London and a Chinese journalist.
The prize goes to Simon Wessely, professor of psychological medicine at King’s College London, for dealing “bravely with intimidation and harassment when speaking about his work” in the field of chronic fatigue syndrome and Gulf War syndrome, and Fang Shi-min, a Beijing-based science journalist who has endured threats to his life for reporting on clinics that promote unproven treatments.
