History journals refuse to comply with open-access policy

History journals including English Historical Review and Past & Present have refused to comply with the green open-access policies set out by Research Councils UK this year. RCUK’s green open access policy requires articles to be placed in open-access repositories after six or 12 months depending on which research council funded the original research. The 20 journals say they will only allow published work to be placed in open-access repositories after 36 months. However, they will comply with RCUK’s gold open-access rules.
