Science and education to be protected in autumn statement

Chancellor George Osborne is expected to fund science, schools and transport and protect health, education and international development in tomorrow’s autumn statement, according to the BBC.

Treasury sources have suggested that £1 billion will go towards free schools and academies, it says. Most government departments will be asked to save an extra 1 per cent in 2013, and a further 2 per cent the year after, releasing £5bn for capital projects, the report adds.
