DH: evaluation of the drug recovery wing pilots programme in prisons

The Department of Health’s policy research programme invites applications for evaluation of the drug recovery wing pilots programme in prisons.

This call is for research to evaluate whether, how and to what extent a drug recovery wing approach can aid recovery of prisoners from drug or alcohol dependence. It should aim to assess the effectiveness of drug recovery wing pilot schemes against key measures in the domains of drug and alcohol use, offending, employment, housing and wider health and wellbeing. This will include assessing procedures for admission to the wings. The project should also undertake an economic evaluation of each of the drug recovery wings in the pilot scheme, and of the programme as a whole, and identify and disseminate the key lessons for ensuring quality, effectiveness and efficiency in the future of this model.
