Paul Golby, former chief executive of energy company E.ON, has been named as the government’s preferred candidate to replace John Armitt as chairman of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. The House of Commons Science and Technology Committee will hold a pre-appointment hearing with Golby on 7 March.
