Thumbs up for Welsh government talent fund

Wales to attract research and management stars with £50m

The Welsh government has been praised for its science strategy, published on 12 March, which includes a plan to attract research megastars to the country’s universities with a £50 million fund.

A Welsh government spokesman confirmed to Research Fortnight that the funding, which “is new money”, will be distributed by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales in £10m instalments over five years. It will be used to fund academics and research directors with experience of building large and complex research consortia. Support teams and equipment will also be funded.
